Day 1 - The Artist's Way

I wasn't sure how to start my year of creative immersion, so I decided to follow a 12 week program developed by Julia Cameron and laid out in a book called, The Artist's Way. A good friend of mine, Mary-Jo Dionne, who is an incredibly creative person, suggested I try it out years ago. I have to admit, I have tried it before, but have never managed to stick with it for the whole 12 weeks. This time's going to be different and I'm going to share snippets of my progress.

First of all, below is a pic of the Artist's Way contract that I signed. Notice that I've already broken the contract once, but that ain't happening again.

So, the plan is to follow the 12 week program to the letter. I am going to attempt to do every activity she suggests and see where I end up. How will I gauge if I'm a more creative person? I'm not sure exactly, and to be honest I'm not sure you can measure creativity anyway. However, I will be working on a number of writing projects through the year, so maybe they'll be the best way to judge.

Note: I can't share all my work from The Artist's Way, but I will share some of it. The first is an activity in which I'm supposed to share five imaginary lives I would like to follow. They are a film director, a lounge singer, an actor, a monk, a ski instructor. Apparently I'm supposed to choose one and do something towards making it a reality. I think I'll choose a film director.
