- I've been preoccupied trying to revise a book that needs some serious revision
- I was away for three days last week doing school presentations in Ontario and attending the CCBC TD Book Awards.
Those are two pretty solid reasons, actually. First, I'm trying to make a living as a writer, so finishing my creative work is more important than blogging. That's harsh, but it's the cold hard truth. I should be able to do both, but throw the trip to Ontario into the mix and my usual routine gets thrown out the window. So, I'm not going to be too hard on myself, but I am going to redo Week 9 of the Artist's Way, since I feel it got ignored a bit.
One activity I did do, and that I think all writers need to do on a regular basis, is making a list of creative goals for the year, the month, and the week. Here is my creative goal for next year:
- Write 12 books (first drafts) in 12 months (This is insane, pure insanity, and I'm not sure it's realistic or even doable. Heck, I think it might be one of the worst things I could try, but it's something I've been considering for a little while so it MIGHT be my goal for next year.)
Here is my creative goal for this month:
- Start my latest book. I have the idea worked out pretty well already, so I just need to sit down and write.
Here is my creative goal for this week.
- Finish revising my latest book and submit it to my publisher.
There you have it, laid bare in black and white. Now it's your turn, sit down and hammer out those creative goals. My advice is to then share them with people. I find if you've told people what you plan on doing, you're more likely to actually do it.
