Paying Attention
I almost started off the day by writing a bunch of woulda, coulda, shoulda remarks during my morning pages. I was sitting at my kitchen table, starting to slam down some seriously negative comments when I glanced up and saw the most spectacular sunrise I've seen in a very long time. In fact, I can't remember ever seeing such a tremendous sunrise in my life. It was all an orange burn along the black horizon, then that gradually morphed into a deep red-orange glow. Sitting on top of that was a thick blanket of purple sky, a deeply satisfying colour. If I'd hunkered down and gotten too wrapped up in all that negativity, I might not have glanced away from the page and noticed a strikingly beautiful sunrise happening right in front of me. And that's the stuff that Julia Cameron is talking about when she says to Pay Attention. Pay Attention to life, not the static that whirls around in your mind, and your apt to see something wonderful. Especially if you lose the inner skeptic and embrace the world with an open mind.
