This weeks focus in The Artist’s Way is on money and our relationship with it. One of the main points is to allow yourself a few luxuries. She’s not talking about sailboats and penthouse suites, she’s talking about the things that give you a sense of joy and abundance. That might be a cup of coffee or a box of chocolates or a pair of new shoes. The point is, luxuries don’t have to be huge or hugely expensive, they can be simple and easy to acquire. For me, getting a haircut is awesome, or wearing a crisp, white tailored shirt. But how is going out and enjoying a few simple luxuries connected to creativity? I think it all goes back to the idea that we have to allow ourselves to let things flow into our lives, and by allowing ourselves a few little luxuries we’re opening ourselves up to new ideas. Plus, it connects us to the child within that enjoys luxuries, without any guilt or judgement. I know my kids don’t feel guilty about gorging themselves on ice-cream, maybe I shouldn’t either.
I’ll keep you posted on the luxuries in my life.
