Five Fav Films

Warning - These films aren't appropriate for viewing by everyone.

So, one of the activities for Week 7 is listing five favourite films:

1. Jaws
2. The Big Lebowski
3. The Shawshank Redemption
4. The Minority Report
5. Star Wars (Episode 4)

Then I have to answer a few questions:

Do you see any common denominators among them?
Hmm...let's see. Jaws is about a man trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city for a simpler life in a small town only to be confronted with a killer shark. The Big Lebowski is about a slacker who has to get his rug back and solve a mystery revolving around the disappearance of a rich man's wife. The Shawshank Redemption is about an innocent man who's put in prison and has to get busy living or get busy dying. The Minority Report is about a man who's trying to prove he's not going to murder someone (it's sci-fi) and is also dealing with the kidnapping of his son. Star Wars is about a young man who wants to escape his humdrum life to become a jedi and avenge his father's death. Perhaps there's a connection in that a few of them are about people trying to escape something and start a new life??? Two are about people who feel they've been blamed for something they didn't do.

What type of movie are they?
Thriller, mystery/comedy, drama, action/mystery, science fiction. (Not a lot of connections there, except for mystery, which makes sense since I've written two mysteries.)

I think Julia Cameron is trying to make us see a few themes that might keep cropping up in our lives through the movies we see or the books we read. Getting a little introspective. I don't know if it'll help me be more creative, but I'd like to go and watch a few of those movies again.
